No matter how often you may clean your teeth, if your toothbrush is not up to the task, your efforts may prove worthless. Improve your toothbrush managing techniques with these 5 simple tips:

Storage: Never share your toothbrush with anyone else! This spreads bacteria and contaminates the toothbrush. Avoid cross-contamination by storing your toothbrush away from other toothbrushes. Store your toothbrush upright in a well-ventilated area. If you must store your toothbrush in a closed container for traveling or other purposes, do so for only shorts periods of time. Closed areas are a great breeding ground for bacteria and other germs.

Replace: An old toothbrush is a useless toothbrush! Replace toothbrushes every 3-4 months–before that if your brush looks frayed or worn.  If you have a hard time using a standard conventional toothbrush, switch to an electric toothbrush; this will help keep your teeth clean with less discomfort for you.

ADA Approved: Use toothbrushes and toothpaste that are dentist-recommended or have the ADA Seal of Acceptance.  The seal is given out by the American Dental Association and guarantees the products meet the top safety and effectiveness guidelines. Look for this seal on toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss, as well as some sugar-free gum, mouthwash, and other products.

Dental Exams: Regularly scheduled dental appointments can help you brush up on your brushing techniques, as well as help you spot dental emergencies early on.
