Orthodontic aligners are great appliances that can shift and move your teeth to their proper positions. Although they can help in many ways, it’s still important to care for them as well as your smile. Keeping the teeth, gums and aligners in tip-top shape can help you have a more successful orthodontic treatment. Our dentist, Dr. Ryan Bramhall, encourages you to care for your smile and appliance by keeping up with oral hygiene. The oral hygiene rules set for treatment include:
-Brush often: Brushing is very important. This is because it removes the plaque, bacteria and food particles from your smile before you trap them with the aligner. When they are trapped, they can start to form cavities. So, it’s best to brush after each time you eat a meal or drink something sugary.
-Floss regularly: Flossing is also very important. It removes the harmful substances from between the teeth so they don’t promote dangerous dental issues when you wear the aligner. So, make sure to floss at least once a day.
-Rinse daily: Rinsing can help you have a clean and pristine smile while you wear your aligners. This is because it completes the cleaning job, helps the teeth and more. Please remember to rinse your mouth at least once a day.
-Clean your aligners: Clean your aligners regularly to remove plaque buildup and other bacteria on the appliance. You can do so by using the special cleaning tools in your aligner kit or a soft-bristled toothbrush to scrub it. Also, make sure to rinse the aligners every time you take them out of your mouth.
